Minecraft Dungeons II

Brave the unknown in an all-new dimension

Minecraft Dungeons II is the sequel to the 2020 dungeon crawler: the camp on Squid Coast is burned, the villagers need a new home, and a soul corruption is bleeding out of the ground. Explore an interconnected world, dive through rifts into the new Sift dimension, and rebuild your hero around twelve combat slots, four armor pieces and passive talismans. This wiki tracks what Mojang has actually confirmed, and is just as clear about what it has not.

What changes from the first game

The pieces of Dungeons II that Mojang named on the record: the world structure, the equipment model, movement, and how loot works. Every claim here traces to the official Minecraft Live presentation or an official store listing.

An interconnected worldThe first game chained separate missions. Dungeons II builds large regions that connect into one traversable world with settlements, narrative events, ancient structures and points of interest. Mojang is specific about the wording: interconnected, not open world.
You can finally jumpThe most requested change from the first game. Jumping opens vertical routes, hides secrets in parkour spots, and enables jump attacks: heavy area hits that land from above but leave you exposed while recovering.
Armor split into four piecesInstead of one armor slot there are four: helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots. A new item type, talismans, adds passive bonuses on top, so a build is shaped across many more decisions than in Dungeons 1.
Loot with random bonus effectsDropped weapons and armor can roll extra effects, so two identical items can play differently. The blacksmith can reroll those effects with echo shards instead of forcing you to wait for a better drop.

Inside The Sift

The headline addition: after more than ten years without a new Minecraft dimension, Dungeons II adds one.

Mysterious portals appear across the Overworld. Step through one and you reach The Sift: a glowing, vibrant dimension of ancient stone and lush vegetation that Mojang designed to feel completely different from the Deep Dark and the Nether. The first area you reach is a lush meadow; deeper in, regions like a bone-strewn canyonland called The Carapace take over.

The Sift is saturated with soul energy. Its glowing liquid damages you twice, draining health and soul energy at once, and the dimension's signature threat, the Twisted Warden, is a Warden warped by that same power. Community lore says it wanders where stray souls gather; Mojang has called that speculation, not canon.

Minecraft Dungeons II FAQ

Is Minecraft Dungeons II out now?

Yes. It launched on September 29, 2026 for PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and it is included with Game Pass from day one.

Is Minecraft Dungeons II the same as Minecraft 2?

No. There is no Minecraft 2. Dungeons II is the sequel to Minecraft Dungeons (2020), the dungeon crawler spin-off. The main sandbox game and Dungeons II are separate products that share a universe.

What was Project Spicewood?

The early codename for Minecraft Dungeons II. The project leaked under that name in March 2025, and Mojang revealed the real title at Minecraft Live in March 2026. The Sift is the new dimension inside the game, not the codename.

Do I need to play the first Minecraft Dungeons first?

No. The story picks up after the first game defeated the Arch-Illager, and returning players will recognize places and systems, but Dungeons II re-explains its world and rebuilds most of its systems from scratch.

Is there a free trial or free version?

No. It is a paid release at $29.99 standard and $49.99 Deluxe. The closest thing to playing for free is a Game Pass subscription, which includes the full game from launch day.

Out now. The wiki is already here.
